Webwatch: FlipSnack

This great site gives you access to an application which allows you to produce attractive and professional-looking books out of student work like research reports/presentations or creative writing, along with graphics and pictures. These can then be shared on social media, or emailed to friends and parents.

FLIP SNACK is an application which allows you to convert current PDF files into book format. Basically you upload a PDF file, the app converts it into what looks like a regular print book, which you can then customize and edit, and finally share both privately and publicly, embedded with a watermark for protection. You can choose different flip sizes and formats – classic, hardcover, coil or interactive.

FlipSnack’s popularity in the classroom has led to the formation of FlipSnackEDU, a special web tool for education that ensures a private and safe learning environment. With this version, teachers can essentially create an online classroom, sharing materials for students to review at home (part of the popular flipped classroom concept) or getting students to use it to publish and share their own assignments and projects.

The EDU version gives you a custom web address for teacher and student accounts, can support audio, video, images and links as well as text, and allows you to create publications of up to 500 pages. Teachers can manage groups of their own, view, edit and evaluate students’ work, all within a customized home page. Layout of books can be in single or two-page format, and the app is compatible on all platforms from desktop and tablet to mobile.

Teachers can test the product with a free class license initially, and upgrade to a payable (Premium) version if required ($32 per month). There is also a School License version which can be purchased for a one-year period, the cost of which is influenced by the number of users involved.

Try it for starters by creating a book of your own – visit www.flipsnack.com.
