Resolve to avoid burn-out

Jan 3, 2014 | Macrat Musings

Happy New Year to you! Macrat Publishing wishes you a fulfilling and productive year.

The beginning of the year is a good time for making decisions to do things differently – to get rid of bad habits and start doing things that benefit us. What about making a New Year’s resolution to avoid burn-out this year?

To avoid burn-out, huffingtonpost.com suggests four strategies:

  • Start exercising – it is a great way to start building energy;
  • Learn to dance – it is a well-established form of therapy;
  • Read more – research shows that reading literary fiction builds empathy and the ability to understand and share the feelings of others. This in turn should help you to strengthen the empathy you have for yourself and get rid of your burnt-out thinking; and
  • Join a community chorus – group singing spurs the brain to release oxytocin, also known as the ‘love’ hormone, which promotes generosity, trust and social bonding.

How about starting a club at your school that does one or more of these activities – or join in if such clubs exist already?
